Friday Fun Maths

In our home, we have a break from our usual maths curriculum on Fridays. This usually involves playing maths related games, or doing the activities suggested in whichever Picture Book Explorers guide we are using.
With that in mind, I thought I'd share a very useful Maths website that I came across a while ago, Dr Mike's Maths games for Kids . (It's got quite a few adverts on, so be careful where you click.)

While all the games  and worksheets look interesting and useful, those listed below lend themselves quite well to being additional resources for a couple of the Picture Book Explorers guides that are currently available. I'm thinking of the Day 5 activities in Picture Book Explorers - Mousehole Cat and Picture Book Explorers - Floss in particular.

While I was on there I discovered this very addictive game. I've just wasted spent a fair while developing my problem solving skills with what appears to be his most versatile game age-wise. Sugar.Sugar is both challenging and fun and you can reset each level as soon as you work out new alterations to your solution. It doesn't take you back to the beginning if you get it wrong and is pretty self-explanatory after you have made your first couple of mistakes. It's a game of thinking rather than a game of speed. You can't delete the lines that you have drawn but you can keep adding more until the level is completed. The music's not too bad, but if you're anything like me, you'll be glad to know that thee is an off switch :)

The Belgian creator, Bart Bonte has made this game freely available for sharing. What a generous man! :0) So here it is folks. (Sorry about the advert, I can do nothing about it :/)

I would love to hear about any extra maths activities you have added to your families explorations :)
